The book Introduction to the Study of History is an academic textbook designed for students of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities as a compulsory course requirement for the Departments of Arabic Language and Literature and Islamic Civilization and History. It aims to provide students with the fundamental concepts and essential knowledge related to the discipline of history by examining the concept of history and historiography, tracing the emergence and development of historical writing through different periods, and introducing the various sources of history and their significance in constructing historical knowledge. The book also addresses the chronological divisions of history and highlights the dynamic relationship between history and other fields of knowledge, both in the humanities and the natural sciences, based on the premise that every discipline possesses a historical dimension that contributes to understanding its development and transformation. Furthermore, the book introduces students to the scientific methodology of historical research, including research approaches, tools, and procedural steps for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting historical data. In preparing this work, special attention was given to presenting the material in a clear academic style that combines scholarly rigor with accessibility, making it suitable for students with diverse academic backgrounds. Each chapter concludes with a set of questions and learning activities designed to develop students’ cognitive and research skills, enhance their abilities in analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation, and support the achievement of the intended learning outcomes in the study of history.
